Although the draft resolution prepared by the Arab states is not legally binding, it certainly carries political weight. There were 120 votes in favor of the resolution, with 45 abstentions and 14 votes against, including Israel and the United States.
After the Security Council failed to meet four times in the last two weeks, the General Assembly passed a ceasefire resolution. A two-thirds majority, excluding abstentions, was required to pass the resolution.
