Gaza: The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has released two vulnerable Israeli women hostages.
In a statement on social media, the spokesman for the armed wing of Hamas, Abu Obeidah, said that the Israeli women hostages were released on the grounds of humanitarianism and poor health. The women have been identified as 85-year-old Oshowood Lashfords and 79-year-old Norit Cooper.
Hamas further said in the statement that the enemy refused to accept them and ignored the issue of our prisoners, yet released the Israeli prisoners. Hamas has released 4 women in the last 3 days. The freed women were taken by Israeli helicopter from the Korfah border crossing to a medical center in Tel Aviv, where their families were waiting.
The Israeli women were released after mediation and efforts by Egypt and Qatar.
