Washington: Russia and Brazil submitted a draft to the UN Security Council to deal with the humanitarian crisis that arose after the Israeli attack on Palestine.
The debate on the resolution will begin on Tuesday at 3 pm Pakistani time. The draft resolution has been submitted by Russia and Brazil. A resolution requires a vote of at least 9 out of 15 members to pass and no veto by the 5 permanent members of the Council, Britain, China, France, Russia or the United States. .
According to the diplomats, the resolution calls for a ceasefire by Russia and the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, while Brazil calls the October 7 attacks by Hamas an act that triggered the war.
The United Nations aid agency for Palestinian refugees has warned that Gaza will face an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe” if Israeli authorities do not restore supplies of water and other essential goods.
Russia’s draft resolution called for “unimpeded” humanitarian aid and an “immediate” ceasefire. In the resolution, Brazil “condemned the attacks by Hamas” and “strongly urged” the provision of essential goods to Palestinian citizens.
Diplomats say the US is insisting that the council condemn Hamas attacks.
