Berlin: A new global study shows that 42 percent of skin disease patients suffer from sleep disturbances.

According to media reports, the research findings were presented at the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Congress in Berlin. The findings come from a comprehensive, international research initiative, the ALL Project, which analyzed more than 50,000 adults from 20 countries on five continents to assess the impact of skin diseases.

Research has revealed that this sleep disturbance has far-reaching effects on patients’ quality of life. Almost half (49 percent) of patients with skin disease reported decreased productivity at work. In contrast, only one in five (19 percent) participants did not have a skin condition.

The main symptoms affecting the sleep of patients with skin disease were itching in 60% and burning or irritation in 17%. In addition, patients with skin disease have a more frequent feeling of fatigue upon awakening, including daytime sleepiness; Includes sore eyes and frequent yawning.
