Crackdown continues against those who publish the Holy Quran without permission

Lahore: Caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs Aneeq Ahmed has directed the relevant authorities to take immediate legal action against those who publish the Holy Quran without permission.

While participating in the high-level committee, he also urged the provincial governments to increase the activities of all Quran boards. “According to the constitution, Ahmadis are non-Muslims, and they are not allowed to build their own mosque-style places of worship,” he added.

The committee established on the orders of Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar was reviewing the progress on the orders of the Lahore High Court in the Hasan Muawiya case. The meeting chaired by Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti was attended by important representatives of the Ministries of Religious Affairs, Law, Foreign Affairs, Education and Information and Broadcasting.

Officials from Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and law enforcement agencies also participated along with provincial chief secretaries. Earlier, the concerned authorities submitted their progress report on the instructions of the Lahore High Court regarding the accurate printing of the text and translation of the Holy Quran.

The committee was told that several cases have been registered against violators of the law and dozens of offending websites have been shut down.

Caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs Aneeq Ahmed directed the law enforcement agencies, especially the Punjab Police, to ensure that immediate legal action is taken against unregistered publishers and those involved in unauthorized publication of Quran.

He said that non-Muslims should be more effectively informed about the laws related to the respect and sanctity of the Holy Quran. Aneeq Ahmed “Pakistani Ahmadis are a minority community, and they should be made aware of the relevant laws as no one is allowed to interfere with the law on any ground,” he added.

The caretaker minister for religious affairs said that the protection of every minority living in the country should also be ensured. Apart from this, he expressed his anger over the non-participation of Inspector General Police Punjab in the meeting.
