Rawalpindi: The fine for driving a motorcycle without a helmet has been increased to Rs 2000 in Punjab province.
According to Express News, on the request of the traffic police, the fine for helmets has been increased from Rs.200 to Rs.2000 across Punjab.
In this regard, CTO Rawalpindi Taimur Khan said that the increase in helmet fine is not meant to collect revenue but to protect the lives of citizens.
He said that wear helmet not to avoid challan but to save life, don’t get challan but buy helmet with this money and make life safe.
According to the CTO, during the first 9 months of 2022, 351 people died in traffic accidents across Punjab, while 280 people have died in traffic accidents so far this year. Motorcyclists were directly or indirectly affected in more than 50,000 accidents this year.
Timur Khan said that this year 71 precious lives were saved by the helmet enforcement campaign, and action was taken against more than 20 lakh motorcycle riders without helmets across the province.
CTO Rawalpindi said that all resources will be used to make the lives of citizens safe from road accidents.
