New Delhi: Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma made many records in the match against Afghanistan.
In the World Cup match against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday, Rohit Sharma played a magnificent innings of 131 runs off 84 balls which included 16 fours and 5 sixes.
Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma has become the most six hitter in international cricket. He broke Chris Gayle’s record for most sixes in international matches across all formats.
Rohit Sharma is now first with 554 sixes, Chris Gayle is second with 553 sixes and Shahid Afridi is third with 476 sixes.
Rohit Sharma completed his storming century in just 63 balls which was the fastest century by any Indian batsman in a World Cup match so far. Earlier, Virender Sehwag scored a century in 2007 World Cup match against Bermuda in 81 balls.
Virat Kohli in 2011 World Cup match against Bangladesh in 83 balls, Shikhar Dhawan against Ireland in 2015 and Sachin Tendulkar against Kenya in 1999 have scored centuries in 84 and 84 balls respectively.
Rohit Sharma also became the batsman with 7 centuries in the World Cup. He scored one century in the 2015 World Cup, five centuries in the 2019 World Cup and now he has scored a century in the current World Cup.
Former Indian legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar is on second place with 6 centuries in World Cup matches. Former Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara and Australia’s Ricky Ponting are joint third with 5.5 centuries.
Rohit Sharma has scored the most centuries in the World Cup in just 19 innings. Tendulkar scored 44, Kumar Sangakkara scored 35 and Ricky Ponting played 42 World Cup innings.
