'Changing climate is a death knell for some countries'

The United Nations has once again warned about global warming and sea level rise, saying that rising sea levels will spell death for some countries.

According to Urdu News, the United Nations has warned that since the year 1900, the sea level has been increasing rapidly, which has put the lives of 900 million people at stake.

The head of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, says that the continuous rise in the sea level has caused serious threats to Bangladesh, China, India and the Netherlands.

Addressing a meeting of the Security Council, Antonio Guterres said that sea levels will continue to rise even if global warming is brought to 1.5 degrees Celsius, which is an international target.

He warned that this situation is a death sentence for countries that are weak and close to the sea, including small island nations.

Apart from the two or four countries at risk, he also mentioned some big cities that will face serious effects, including Cairo, Lagos, Maputo, Bangkok, Dhaka, Jakarta, Mumbai, Shanghai, London, Los Angeles, New York. and include San Thiago.

The head of the United Nations called even one degree dangerous for global warming, saying that if the temperature increases by 2 Celsius, the sea level may double and the temperature may increase.

He cited data from the Meteorological Organization as alarming, saying that ‘globally since 1900 sea levels have risen more than they have in 3,000 years’.

According to him, the temperature of the oceans has also increased during the last century as much as it has not increased in the last 11 thousand years.
