First time a company has been fined for space debris

It should be noted that space debris refers to pieces of old satellites and spacecraft parts that are in orbit around the Earth but are no longer in use and pose a risk of collision with other launchable technologies.

On the other hand, Dish’s EchoStar-7 satellite, which was first launched in 2002, was in a geostationary orbit that starts at 22,000 miles (36,000 km) above Earth’s surface. The company’s goal was to move the satellite 186 miles from Earth, but in 2022 it was only moved 76 miles.
