Peshawar: Five border points have been established to prevent the transfer of polio virus from Afghanistan to Pakistan.
A meeting of the National Task Force for Anti-Polio was held under the chairmanship of Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar Haq Kakar, in which Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Azam Khan participated through video link.
Caretaker Chief Minister Azam Khan told the meeting that the provincial government is taking effective measures with the support of other partners to control polio, but due to the specific geographical conditions of the province, some problems are being faced in eradicating the polio virus.
Azam Khan said that currently there are only two cases of polio left in the province. In the year 2019, 93 cases of polio were reported in the province. In 2014, there were a total of 247 polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Coordinated measures are being taken to rid the province of polio virus.
The caretaker chief minister said that a total of 14 polio prevention campaigns have been conducted in the province since June 2022. A five-day anti-polio campaign has been started in the province from Monday under the National Immunization Campaign. We are trying to achieve 100% of the goals of this campaign.
The caretaker chief minister said that the provincial government values the role of frontline polio workers, in this regard the role of donor institutions including the health department, civil administration, police and army is commendable.
