Stockholm: This time, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was jointly awarded to Catalin Carrico and Drew Weissman for developing the “mRNA vaccine” of Corona.

According to the World News Agency, this year’s Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to American biologist Kevan Shaukat, who discovered a treatment to block the KRAS cancer gene behind one-third of lung, colon, and pancreatic cancers. .

In addition, two more American biologists, Stanislaus Leibler and Michael Elowitz, were also in the running for the Nobel Prize in Medicine for their work on synthetic gene circuits, which also established the field of synthetic biology.

Gene circuits enable scientists to redesign organisms with new capabilities through genetic engineering, but the 2023 Nobel Prize in Medicine went to the joint research of Catalin Carrico and Drew Weissman.

The co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Katalin Kariko, is from Hungary and is a professor at Sagan University, while Drew Weissman, an American, teaches at the University of Pennsylvania.

Both of these scholars were awarded the Nobel Prize for their research that made great achievements in the world of medicine. This research led to the creation of the first mRNA vaccines to fight the deadly virus “corona” that has killed 7 million people worldwide.

The jury announced the Nobel Prize in Stockholm, Sweden, saying that the research of these two experts made an unprecedented contribution to the development of a vaccine against one of the greatest threats to human health in modern times.

The two scientists will be awarded a gold medal and a check of one million dollars along with a certificate for this great research that has prevented deaths from the Corona epidemic in the world in a prestigious ceremony to be held on December 10 in Stockholm.

It should be remembered that the anniversary of Alfred Nobel, the founder of the Nobel Prizes, will be on December 10 and the prize will be awarded on the same day.

Alfred Nobel, who made important inventions including the dynamite, died on December 10, 1896, and at that time he had $9 million in his account, which he gave to outstanding performers in the fields of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and peace. It was bequeathed to be given as a reward.

After Alfred Nobel’s death, the Nobel Prizes for Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature and Peace are awarded every year on his death anniversary.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was won last year by Swedish scientist Svante Pabo for his discoveries in human evolution. The discovery unlocked the secrets of Neanderthal DNA, providing key insights into our immune system.

It should be noted that the Nobel Prize for Physics, Chemistry, Literature and Peace will be announced on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday respectively, while the Nobel Prize for Economics will be announced on October 9.
