Ban on new development schemes, Karachi's development stopped

Karachi: The development process of Karachi has stopped, due to the ban imposed on new development schemes, 246 big development schemes costing billions have been canceled.

208 out of 246 schemes of the provincial ADP financial year 2023-24 have been delayed and frozen before approval. The development projects include the development schemes of Municipal Corporation Karachi, Water Supply and Drainage Authority and Lyari Development Authority, 4 months of the financial year. Due to the lapse and the ban imposed by the Election Commission, no steps or progress could be made for the approval of the schemes by the caretaker government.

According to reliable sources, out of the 246 major development schemes allocated to Karachi in the provincial ADP for the financial year 2023-24, only 38 schemes could be approved before August 15, 2023. are also limited to files, while the remaining 208 schemes have not been sent to Sindh Local Government Department even PC1 due to which the future of these schemes has become a question mark.

Sources say that due to the ban of the Election Commission, work has stopped on all the above mentioned schemes and 246 major development projects for the development of Karachi have been left pending and frozen. It has been directed to continue the work on the approved and awarded projects, while for new schemes approval can be obtained from the Election Commission.

Among the 246 schemes, 42 of Karachi Development Authority (KDA), 164 of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), 5 of Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (KWSC), 29 of Lyari Development Authority (LDA), 1 of PD Local Government Project and 25 other towns of Karachi. 5 development schemes are also included which were transferred to Chinesar Town only by ignoring.
