Rich should be taxed more in Pakistan, IMF

Islamabad: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has called on Pakistan to implement energy sector reforms and improve efficiency and impose more taxes on the wealthy.

According to the IMF, sustainable growth can be achieved through energy sector reforms and efficiency improvements in Pakistan. The Director of Communication of the International Monetary Fund, Julie Kozek, while answering a question about Pakistan in the briefing, said that the tax-to-GDP ratio in Pakistan is extremely low.

He said that more tax should be imposed on the rich class in the country. The Director of Communication of the IMF said that Pakistan needs a monetary policy that can reduce inflation.

He said that the purpose of the IMF agreement in July is to bring stability to the economy of Pakistan, stable growth can be achieved by improving the efficiency and reforms in the energy sector in Pakistan.
