MPhil and PhD fees waived for teachers and employees of University of Karachi

Faculty teachers of University of Karachi were able to waive MPhil and PhD fees for themselves.

The administration of University of Karachi has exempted the regular teachers of the university from the fees of MPhil/PhD due to the teaching boycott and continuous pressure of the teachers association. A formal notification in this regard has also been issued by the registrar of the university Prof. Abdul Waheed.

According to the notification, non-teaching staff will also not pay the fees of MPhil or Ph.D. It should be noted that the boycott of evening classes by the teachers of University of Karachi has been going on for the past 10 days, while now the morning classes are also under protest since last Friday and a few hundred teachers are not ready to teach 46 thousand students.

Some of the major demands in the teachers’ list of demands included prompt payment of fees for evening classes and exemption from MPhil/PhD fees, one of which has now been met.

According to the notification issued by the registrar of the University of Karachi, the teachers of the University of Karachi will not pay admission, enrollment, semester examination, thesis evaluation and viva examination fees in respect of MPhil/PhD. That means MPhil or PhD for teachers will be completely free.

It should be noted that a student doing MPhil from University of Karachi has to pay 3 lakh 32 thousand rupees and a PhD student has to pay 4 lakh 7 thousand rupees as fees, but now this amount is not only in the treasury of the university. Rather, the fee charged in connection with the thesis evaluation, which is being paid to the foreign referee, will be paid by the University of Karachi administration itself, this fee is around $200 per student.

It is noteworthy that after doing MPhil/PhD, the same teachers will also be eligible to take 25 thousand rupees per month from the national exchequer in the name of allowance.
