Islamabad: Chairman National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) Waseem Mukhtar has said that the situation has reached such a point that we have to take some tough decisions.
Talking to the media in Islamabad, Nepra Chairman Waseem Mukhtar said that electricity theft must be stopped to prevent further increase in electricity prices. He said that free markets are leading in the energy sector, the consumer should buy the company from which he intends to buy electricity.

Chairman Nepra said that at present the electricity production capacity is 48 thousand MW, NTDC gets electricity by looking at the production cost of any plant.
On over-billing, he said that a committee has been formed to prevent over-billing, it is necessary to take action against the staff and bring in the private sector to reduce electricity prices. Waseem Mukhtar further said that electricity rate is decided after public hearing.
