Athens: French President Emmanuel Macron said the French ambassador had been “held hostage” by Niger’s new military administration.
According to foreign media, Emmanuel Macron said during his visit to the northwestern town of Samour-en-Auxois that we have ambassadors and diplomats in Niger who have been taken hostage in the French embassy.
He added that since Niger’s leaders do not allow fresh supplies into the embassy compound, the ambassador is subsisting only on military rations.
Niger has been in turmoil since July 26, when the former commander of the presidential guard ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.
