The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government rejected the proposal to increase BRT fares

Peshawar: The Caretaker Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has rejected the Finance Department’s proposal to increase BRT fares.

According to the sources, the finance department has proposed to increase the fares of BRT and impose tax on shops in the vicinity.

The Ministry of Finance had said that the government is giving Rs 2 billion subsidy to BRT annually, the BRT fare should be increased by Rs 5 and the shops around the BRT corridor should be taxed. BRT will become a profitable venture.

The finance department had insisted that students, women, the elderly and the disabled should be given fare concessions.

On the other hand, the Caretaker Information Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Feroze Jamal said that the people of the province are suffering from financial difficulties, rent cannot be increased in the situation of inflation. They want to give relief to the people, so do not accept the suggestions because the people are already suffering from inflation.
