Dhaka: The latest news is that more than 750 people have died due to the terrible epidemic of dengue in Bangladesh. The second news is that the number of dengue patients has increased significantly in the Indian city of Kolkata. The reason for this is the increase in the duration of the epidemic, which has been predicted by international organizations, especially the World Health Organization (WHO).
In July 2023, the WHO said that global warming may not only increase the duration of the dengue epidemic, but it may also affect a large population of the world. Some 15 years ago, experts had said that with the increase in temperature, mosquitoes will spread to other areas, which may increase the risk of malaria, dengue and chikungunya.
Dr. Raman Valludhan, associated with the WHO, said that if this trend continues, the epidemic may spread to 129 countries containing half of the world’s population. He also said that 10 to 40 million people are affected by dengue every year and more than 100,000 people die every year in the American continent alone.
According to the World Health Organization, 500,000 dengue cases were recorded worldwide in 2000 and this number will reach 4.2 million in 2022, and this is the reason why Asian nations are also affected by it.
According to reports, dengue cases have increased in Sindh and Punjab and evidence of one death due to malaria has also been found. But this epidemic has wreaked havoc on Bangladesh. According to the country’s health department, the dengue epidemic started in April of this year, which has lasted for a long time, and has sickened 135,000 people and 740 people have died so far.
Dengue virus of Dengue type 2 is more prevalent in India which has particularly targeted Kolkata. In this city, thousands of people have been affected by dengue in a few days, while 25 people, including a doctor, have died.
