Government appeals against acquittal of 4 accused including Rauf Siddiqui rejected

Karachi: The Sindh High Court rejected the appeals against the sentences of Rehman alias Bhola and Zubair alias Charia in the Baldia factory tragedy case.

The Supreme Court, while accepting the appeals of 4 accused for life imprisonment, rejected the appeals of the government against the acquittal of 4 accused including Rauf Siddiqui.

A two-member bench headed by Justice KK Agha gave a reserved verdict on the government’s appeals against the punishments and acquittal of the accused in the Baldia factory tragedy case.

The court rejected the appeals of Abdul Rahman alias Bhola and Zubair alias Charia and ordered to uphold the sentence.

The court rejected the government’s appeals against the acquittal of 4 accused including MQM leader Rauf Siddiqui.

The court acquitted the appeals of Arshad Mehmood, Fazal, Shah Rukh and Ali Muhammad who were sentenced to life imprisonment. Last year, Fazal died in jail.

On August 29, after the arguments of the parties were completed, the court reserved its decision.
According to the prosecution, the Special Anti-Terrorism Court sentenced 2 accused to death and 4 to life imprisonment in 2020. The accused filed appeals against the decision of the Special Anti-Terrorism Court.

While the government had challenged the acquittal of 4 accused including Rauf Siddiqui.

The court sentenced Abdul Rehman alias Bhola and Zubair alias Charia to death, while individual employees accused Shahrukh, Fazal, Arshad Mehmood and Ali Muhammad were sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Special Anti-Terrorism Court No. 7 had pronounced the verdict in the Baldia factory tragedy case.

On September 11, 2012, 260 people were burnt to death in a fire at the Ali Enterprise Baldia Town factory.

Speaking to the media after the hearing, MQM leader Rauf Siddiqui said that 260 people were burnt to death in the Baldia tragedy. Hell is the abode of anyone who has spoiled this case even by negligence.

Rauf Siddiqui said that among those who have been acquitted today, the accused named Fazal died in jail. Today the court acquitted him.
