Tehran: A female journalist who raised her voice over the death in custody of Mehsa Amini in Iran was arrested and allegedly sexually assaulted in prison.
According to the World News Agency, 23-year-old Nazila Marufeen has been arrested several times since she raised her voice over the death of Mahsa Amini. Nazila also interviewed Mahsa Amini’s father.
The woman complained that the journalist was sexually assaulted, beaten and starved in the prison of Tehran, on which a judicial investigation was started.
Iran’s judiciary said that the female journalist could not provide any evidence to support her allegation of sexual assault in prison, and she had not filed any formal complaint.
The statement released on the court’s website said that the allegation of the female journalist reinforces the enemy’s plan to defame the country.
It may be recalled that the female journalist was first arrested in November 2022 but later released and then recently detained on August 30 for not wearing a headscarf in public.
