IMF rejects proposal to give relief to consumers of up to 400 units of electricity.
According to the sources, there has been contact between Pakistan and IMF on the issue of providing relief to consumers on electricity bills.
According to the sources, on this occasion, it has been agreed to collect the bills in installments from the consumers who consume up to 200 units of electricity, the final approval of receiving the bills in installments will be taken from the federal cabinet.
In this regard, the sources say that with this initiative, about 4 million electricity consumers are likely to get temporary relief, while 32 million consumers could have benefited in the form of relief up to 400 units.
According to the sources, the IMF has also emphasized on crackdown against electricity and gas thieves and improving recovery and has also demanded an increase in gas tariff from 45 to 50 percent from July 1.
Sources say that the increase in gas tariff is subject to the approval of the federal cabinet.
