Islamabad: 85 countries have migrated to 5G so implementation is necessary in Pakistan as well.

It is agreed that we are facing a huge financial crisis. Many private sector companies, including telcos, are struggling to get out of trouble, they earn revenue in rupees, their government liabilities are also pegged to the US dollar. In such a situation, any talk of implementing 5G technology may be futile.

But 220 active 5G operations in 85 countries mean that we too will have to implement 5G sooner or later. 5G is the first mobile technology to remove human hands from devices and make connections invisible to users.

Faster internet speeds, increased data carrying capacity means 5G could change the way things work, 5G could revolutionize manufacturing processes by compressing latency.

The 2G connection had a delay of about one second. Even a quarter of a second is too long for 5G, 5G can easily handle these speeds, creating new opportunities for 5G software developers to develop common 5G software solutions. does because the future of 5G will be based on open system architectures.

It started with the Chinese taking the lead in 5G over the West. This will also open opportunities for Pakistani youth. Due to the current situation, a grace period of a few years should be allowed for repayments.

This will enable telcos to improve 4G service, without any direct cost to the government. Also, PTA and FAB should reduce regulatory fees. To support local use cases, telcos should set up 5G trial hotspots in universities, research institutes, industries, incubation centers etc.

Government should help partially. We wasted six precious years. We may have to wait a few more months, maybe 12 months, but during that wait, we should start preparing for the launch of 5G.
