Every year the island is pushed back with the help of boats

Medicine: Lake Shippawa in the US state of Wisconsin is home to a large floating island that can move and requires local boats to keep it away.

Chippewa Lake was created in 1923 by flooding a large swamp. Soon after that, a rich soil-like substance was produced from the dead trees at the site.

As the years passed, plants from grass to trees began to grow and their roots deepened and took the shape of an island. The largest of these is a forty-acre island located on the west side of the lake and covered with trees. It is gradually driven by the winds towards the shores of the urban population, which is pushed back by dozens of local boats almost every year.
