San Francisco: Maintaining a stable weight past age 60 can increase women’s chances of reaching 90, 95 or even 100 years.
According to media reports, a recent study found that older women with a more stable weight lived 1.2 to 2 times longer than women who failed to control their weight.
Alauddin Shadab, associate professor at the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science at the University of California, San Diego, said in a university press release that the study included older women in the US with a body mass index range of 25 to 35. It was easy to experience being overweight or obese. Our research supports a stable weight associated with longevity in older women.
However, the professor also said that if older women are experiencing an unexplained drop in their weight, it could be a warning sign of poor health and a harbinger of reduced longevity.
