Conjunctivitis started spreading rapidly in Karachi, dozens of patients report daily

Karachi: In the city of Quaid, there was an extraordinary increase in viral eye infections, dozens of cases were reported daily.

According to Express News, dozens of cases of conjunctivitis are being reported daily in public and private hospitals of the city since last month, Jinnah Hospital has 50 IOPDs daily, out of which 25 cases of red eye are being reported, including children and Women are also included.

According to Consultant Ophthalmologist Dr. Muhammad Mueezuddin, the increase in cases is due to the transfer of water from the affected person’s eye to another, red eye infection lasts for 8 to 10 days, the affected person’s eyes become red with moisture, eye pain. Also, the affected person’s towel and other consumables including soap should be kept separately.

He said that the affected person can clean the eye with prescribed eye drops and clean tissue, washing the affected eye with cold water gives relief, caution and cleanliness are necessary to prevent the spread of red eye infection.

Symptoms of conjunctivitis

Assistant Ophthalmologist Dr. Rabia Chaudhry of Jinnah Hospital Karachi said that the symptoms of conjunctivitis include redness of the eye, moisture in the eye, itching and inflammation in the eye, while lumps also form near the ear. In many cases, it also affects the cornea of the eye, due to which the visual acuity of the affected person may also be affected.

He said that if the infection affects only the white part of the eye, it gets better in 8 to 10 days, but if it has affected the retina, it takes two to three weeks to get better.

Precautions

Dr. Rabia Chaudhry said that eye infection requires more caution than treatment because it is transmitted from one person to another, but it is not transmitted by sight, but by direct contact with the eye fluid of an infected person. In most cases, the affected person is also suffering from cold, flu and cough along with eye infection.

He said that most people clean the eye with a tissue and leave it on the bed, due to which other members of the house touch it, then if their hand touches the eye, the infection spreads. If a person has red eye infection, he should take care of others by taking personal precautions.

Dr. Rabia said that hands should be washed before using the drops while keeping the tip of the drops away from the affected eye. We are seeing that these cases are being reported in children too, so take special care of children.
