London: The number of patients with bone-related joint pain or osteoarthritis is increasing rapidly worldwide. By 2050, there could be one billion patients worldwide.

The prominent medical journal Lancet has said in a report that currently 15% of people aged 30 years or more worldwide suffer from osteoarthritis and its patients have been increasing rapidly in the last three decades.

It should be noted that this is the most common type of arthritis in which the tissue between the joints breaks down very quickly. The Lancet report examines 200 countries, including statistics and data from these countries.

According to the report, population growth, obesity and aging are the three main factors due to which the disease is increasing. In 1990, there were 25.6 million patients with osteoarthritis. In 2020, this number has increased to 60 crores. Similarly, in 2050, one billion people may suffer from it.

Among them, there may be more patients suffering from hand arthritis and hip joint pain, and women may be more affected among the patients. In 2020, the rate was 61 percent among women and 39 percent among men, which needs further consideration.

The Lancet stresses that governments will need to consider this medical crisis and take appropriate measures.
