It should be noted that France has strictly banned religious symbols in public schools since the 19th century laws. He is renewing policies to remove traditional Catholic influence from education in public institutions and to deal with the growing Muslim minority.
France banned the veil in schools in 2004 and banned the full-face veil in public in 2010, angering many of its five million Muslim community.
