Riyadh: In Saudi Arabia, if children are absent from school for many days without any reason, parents can be jailed for it.
According to Saudi media, under the Child Protection Law introduced in the country, school management can recommend action to the government against the parents of children who are absent without notice for 20 consecutive days.
If the investigation proves that the parents deliberately deprived the children of their right to education or were negligent, the parents may also face jail time under the law.
However, this punishment can only be given by the court, that is, after the investigation is completed, the inquiry committee will make a case against the parents and submit it to the court and the court will pronounce the decision after the hearing of the case.
A representative of the Saudi government told the media that the purpose of this law is to remove any kind of obstacle to the right of education for children so that these children can become useful citizens for the country and society.
