Pakistan Customs personnel foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign liquor worth Rs 8.5 crore from Port Qasim under the guise of the embassy.
According to officials, the goods declaration showed domestic goods in containers imported in the name of the embassy.
The customs officials intercepted the suspicious container and wrote to the concerned embassy for verification, to which the embassy expressed its indifference to the imported goods.
According to the sources, on checking, foreign liquor was recovered from the container instead of domestic goods, the value of exported foreign liquor is 8 crore 48 lakh 80 thousand rupees.
Customs authorities have registered a case and arrested one accused, while investigation and efforts are on to nab other members of the group.
