People came out on the streets against the electricity bills in different cities, protested, burned the bills, raised slogans, the electricity companies of Islamabad and Multan also called the police for fear of the protesters.
The power companies have written a letter to the concerned authorities demanding protection. In their letter, the companies also said that the installations may be damaged.
Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Sargodha, Talagang, Muzaffargarh and Gujra are among the cities where protests were held against the increase in electricity bills.
Taking notice of the situation, the caretaker Prime Minister has called an emergency meeting yesterday. In the meeting, there will be consultation on giving relief to people on electricity bills.
Reacting to the Prime Minister’s statement, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed said that judges, generals, bureaucrats, WAPDA employees and parliamentarians should not give anyone a single unit of electricity for free.
