Beijing/Copenhagen: Denmark has passed new legislation that aims to make burning and desecrating the Holy Quran in public places illegal and a punishable offence.
According to the World News Agency, the Minister of Justice of Denmark Peter Himmelgaard said in a press conference that the government has decided to introduce a new law that will ban insulting or desecration of any religion and sacred objects related to it.
Denmark’s justice minister added that the enactment of the law would make desecration of religion and sacred objects a punishable offense punishable by up to 2 years in prison and a fine.

The Minister of Justice also admitted that the desecration of the Holy Quran was a blasphemous act and against Denmark’s interests. The violent and religiously inciting act of burning the Holy Quran cannot be condoned.
It should be remembered that like Sweden, in Denmark too, there was an unholy audacity to burn the Holy Qur’an, which caused great concern at the global level, especially in Muslim countries.
Denmark had beefed up its border presence and tightened security amid fears of a backlash, but has now eased security after the legislation was announced.
