Allama Shibli Nomani was the most famous scholar and writer of his era, writer and composer, critic and biographer. Not only this, he was also a scholar and thinker of the renaissance of Muslims.
On the one hand, he played an important role in the mental and intellectual awareness of Muslims, on the other hand, he fought the orientalists in the field of knowledge. Two of his outstanding works are still extant in the form of ‘Nidwat Ulama’ and ‘Dar al-Musnafin’. Those who are familiar with these institutions are also well aware of their importance.
In the book under review, Dr. Muhammad Ilyas Al-Azmi has included many new aspects and corners of Allama Shibli’s comprehensive personality. It is a collection of eighteen subjects and articles in total. In the beginning, Allama Shibli’s childhood and education have been described.
Such information has been provided which was not made public before. In one chapter, the introduction of his academic, literary and intellectual capital has been presented.
The relationship of Allama Shibli has been examined with respect to personalities like Ghalib, Nawab Mohsin Mulk, Deputy Nazir Ahmed, Allama Iqbal, Atiya Faizi. New aspects of the relationship between Allama Shibli and Atiya Faizi have been shown and some false information has been refuted. This is an interesting chapter.
Facts have also been presented regarding Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and Allama Shibli. Some people said that Allama Shibli was Sir Syed’s rival and some said that he was his mentor, although the case is different.
Although Sir Syed was the benefactor of Shibli, Allama Shibli’s own knowledge was also good. In this regard, the author has discussed in detail in the book, which are actually his articles and essays. He has discussed many more topics in the book.
The book also includes some unpublished writings of Allama Shibli, nine discovered 36 letters. Of course, this book will prove to be a very important source to know more about Allama Shibli.
“Andre Na Panda”
Dr. Mohammad Sagheer Khan’s travel book “Andre Na Penda” is the first travel book written in Pahari language. Before this, no travel book “Panda” was written in Pahari language.
Although it is a very old language, for a long time this language was limited to the “dialect” only, but in the last two decades, the trend of reading and writing in Pahari language has been seen, which has now increased considerably.
The aforementioned travelogue has two features. The first is that it is written in ‘Pahari’ language, the second and important feature is that the travelogue contains the journey of the three units of the divided state of Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from this, after the partition of the state, no itinerary covers the travel of the three units of the state.
The travelogue is a basic historical reference. Likewise, the political situation of Gilgit in the 90s, especially the objective conditions of the state, is known from this travelogue. By reading the travels of Neelam and Samahini, it is known about the archeology there that this state has been a part of an ancient civilization.
Across the blood line, the territory under Indian administration, reading the travelogue of Jammu shows the sorrow of the divided state of Jammu and Kashmir that citizens of the same state have to travel hundreds of miles to visit the territory in front of their eyes. It has to be done and the travel has to be done under the permits and strict restrictions of two states.
Apart from this, the pain of partition and slavery is prominent in many other places in this travelogue. For example, while mentioning Tetwal and the Neelam River, the feeling of slavery is evident in the author’s feelings about the partition of Kashmir and powerlessness over resources. This book keeps the reader engaged as if he is traveling himself and all these events are happening with him.
Dr. Muhammad Sagheer Khan is a professor in Rawalkot i.e. a government employee, yet he had courage and openly expressed his feelings and emotions which is commendable. Even before this, he has written many books in Pahari language, including poems and fiction.
“Andre Naan Panda” is a must read for Pahari speakers and those interested in literature. The most surprising thing for me after reading this book is that more or less one and a half to two and a half decades have passed since the “Pande” (journey) mentioned in the book, but during this time it happened. The events feel as if they happened recently.
The book should also have a chapter on “Pahari Dictionary” which would include the meanings of less used or ancient words of the “Pahari” language. This would make it easy for readers to understand.
Hari-yupiya … the dream of a man who longs for peace and harmony
There are countless people who are fed up with this world full of unrest, pollution and noise. Their heart wants to suddenly open the door to a world where there is sophistication, good management, love, peace… and they enter this beautiful world. ‘Hari Yupiya’ is such a beautiful world.
To go there, you have to go to the period before the birth of Hazrat Isa (peace be upon him) approximately six thousand years ago. About 24 km away from today’s Pakistani city of Sahiwal. At that time, this beautiful world was spread over an area of more than three hundred and fifty acres. In today’s world it may be called a ‘big village’ but it was a complete civilization.
Many people want to live in worlds that are free of selfishness, hatred and fatalism, clear and transparent. Then there was patience and tolerance, there was a culture of standing up, laughing and playing with each other.
The people of this world did not have time to think and fight against each other, that’s it! He used to start work for development and prosperity at sunrise, his world remained the same color till sunset.
As a result, the Saraswati and Eravati rivers also flowed laughing and singing, every hundred of them were covered with greenery, peacocks danced in the forests. Temples, priests, sacred songs, sangeet, dust-blowing chariots, shesh nags and characters embedded in local soil.
If you have time, you must go to see the traces of this civilization. The only problem is that at a distance of twenty-four kilometers from Sahiwal, only traces will be found, but this entire civilization will be found alive and well in the form of the novel ‘Hari Yupiya’, written by Ms. Hina Jamshed.
He is also a researcher, critic, translator, columnist, fiction writer and novelist. She studied Urdu literature, did her PhD, then she entered the field of research. Like an archeologist, he discovered a civilization thousands of years old, and then revived this civilization.
This world of eight and a half thousand years ago, built of hardened mud and baked red bricks, looked from a distance as if there were many mounds and each mound had a separate protective wall. This collection of mounds was surrounded by a separate wall with a magnificent towering central gate, the awe of which stunned the onlookers. The story starts from a small settlement on the banks of the river Irrawaddy and enters ‘Hari Upia’ through the same magnificent main gate, bursting with colors of life that one can marvel at. The author writes:
“The truth is that Hariupia is my dream, which I have seen and felt many times with my waking eyes, in the ruins of Harappa.
You can also call it the dream of a man longing for peace and harmony in the present age, who in the past has repeatedly struggled with annihilation, but with his courage, courage and indomitable courage, he has built a new civilization on the chest-like tomb of the destroyed civilization. Babang Dahal continued to proclaim stability.
Today, Dr. Hina Jamshed shows these beautiful dreams to the people of today and takes them to a beautiful world. Reading this story turned out to be a new and beautiful experience for me. You must also read it. ‘Book Corner’ presented it in a beautiful style and volume, with a very beautiful cover. Price, Rs.1250. Publisher: Book Corner, Jhelum, Contact: 03215440882
