Artificial sweeteners have been confirmed to have negative effects on cardiovascular health

Barcelona: In a new study Artificial sweeteners have been confirmed to have negative effects on cardiovascular health.

In addition to having harmful effects on cardiovascular health, artificial sweeteners are not effective in controlling weight gain, according to a scientific review conducted by researchers in Spain.

Two researchers, Francisco Gómez Delgado and Pablo Pérez Martínez, presented the latest review of the scientific evidence on artificial sweeteners, showing that instead of having positive effects on our health, they have negative effects on our cardio-metabolic system (heart and metabolism). There are effects.

A paper published in the journal Current Opinion in Cardiology investigated the consumption of artificial sweeteners and their adverse effects on cardiovascular development, including several cardiometabolic risks (hypertension, dyslipidemia and diabetes).

Globalization and increased consumption of ultra-processed foods have increased the need for information on the health effects of ingredients such as artificial sweeteners. The aim of this review was to evaluate the role and impact of these components in the development of cardiometabolic and cardiovascular diseases.

Artificial sweeteners are known to disrupt the endocrine system causing our metabolic system to function abnormally. The review found that consumption of artificial sweeteners increased the risk of type 2 diabetes by 18 to 24 percent and metabolic syndrome by 44 percent.

Recent evidence suggests that consumption of both types of artificial sweeteners (nutritive and non-nutritive), diabetes, and other factors increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
