Disclosure of collection of up to five lakh rupees for a grave in Karachi

Karachi: Due to inflation in the city of Quaid, citizens are now facing difficulties in burying their loved ones, where additional money is being collected along with the government fee for the graves.

It has become impossible for the citizens of Karachi to die and not even a grave is available for their loved ones, where inflation has affected everything, it has become difficult to die, and the process of burial for the poor and middle class citizens is also difficult and difficult. It’s painful.

First of all, space is not available in the cemeteries of Karachi, if available, additional money is being charged instead of official fees, due to which the burial process has also become difficult for the citizens. There are a total of 213 cemeteries in Karachi. Within the limits of 38 cemeteries, there are separate prices for graves in each cemetery. Many graves are also occupied by some elements where arbitrary prices are being charged for graves.

Just like there are different land control agencies in Karachi, graveyards are also under different land control agencies.

These cemeteries include Isa Nagri, Sakhi Hasan, Muhammad Shah, Azimpura, Chakragoth, Korangi, Society, Model Colony, Yasinabad, Mayo Shah, Paposh Nagar, Liaquatabad and many other large cemeteries which fall under the boundaries of KMC. However, burials have been banned for years due to lack of space here.

KMC had built the Shah Muhammad Graveyard in North Kur Achi, but now it is also completely full, due to the lack of graveyards in the city, citizens are not even able to bury their loved ones.

Burials are being done in the cemeteries under the new formula, if the grave of a loved one is there, then the burial is being done in it, but a huge amount is being charged for that too.

All the cemeteries of Karachi are completely full where there is no more space for burial. In this era of inflation, dying in Karachi has also become the most difficult phase. The cemeteries have run out of space.

At this time in Karachi, the cemetery has also become a hotbed of corruption. In the cemeteries of Uzmi Kar Achi, the official price of a grave is 14500 rupees, while the staff of the cemetery is charging 25 to 50 thousand rupees.

The highest rate is in the society cemetery where graves are being sold for Rs one to five lakh, while Mayo Shah and Paposh Nagar graveyards are allegedly under the control of mafias where KMC staff cannot even enter.

According to the KMC officials, unknown elements also fired at the KMC staff in the Paposh Nagar cemetery, while a few years ago the local government leadership of Achi held a meeting with the chief secretary, revenue officers and deputy commissioners and in each district. 1500 acres of land was requested for a cemetery in Yer district, but only 55 acres of land was given by the Deputy Commissioner of Gharbi district for a cemetery, but it was also allegedly seized by the land mafia.

There is no space available in any cemetery in Karachi and neither local bodies, Sindh government, or any other land control agency has allocated space for cemeteries, leaving KMC, associations, welfare institutions, other land control agencies in Achi. All the cemeteries are full.

Talking to Express, Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad Baloch said that there is a lack of cemeteries in Karachi and they are working in this regard. Now we have allocated 200 acres of land for the cemetery in West District and the process of burial has also started here.

He said that in order to secure this land, a wall is being built around the cemetery, while a cemetery was also built on 50 acres of land in Malir.

He has claimed that the burial at these places is completely free, here no money will be taken from the citizens for the grave. The deputy mayor of Karachi expressed surprise and said that money is being taken for the grave, so he was told that 145,000 rupees are being collected. There is no price for the grave in Malir, it is free, while soon thousands of acres more land will be provided for the cemetery in Malir, while in other districts of Karachi, the Deputy Commissioners have been asked to take out land for graveyards so that the citizens can be buried. I do not face any problem.

To be clear, more than 250 deaths occur daily in Achi, which are buried in different cemeteries. According to the statistics, deaths increase in December, January, June and July.

In this way, hundreds of people in Karachi go through the burial process 365 days a year and face immense hardships.

In this regard, Sindh government and local bodies and other land control agencies have to take serious steps to solve this problem.
