The World Food Program of the United Nations has called for an immediate ceasefire in Syria so that relief operations can be carried out and aid can be delivered to the people affected by the earthquake.
According to Urdu News, the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has appealed to provide 77 million dollars to help the 874 thousand earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.
Following Friday’s appeal by the WFP, the UN has also called for an immediate ceasefire to facilitate relief efforts in Syria.
WFP has said in its statement that the number of people who lost their homes in Turkey has reached 590,000, while in Syria it has reached 284,000, and this includes 4,500 migrants.
It should be noted that the death toll in this earthquake on Monday has exceeded 22 thousand, it is the worst earthquake of the century in this region.
WFP has added that 115,000 people have been provided with food in both Turkey and Syria in the last 4 years.
WHO Regional Director Corinne Fleischer has said that thousands of people affected by the earthquake are most in need of food at the moment, there is no provision to prepare food.
The WHO has said that the rescue operation in the troubled areas of Syria is suffering from a lot of difficulties, there the WHO has reached 41 thousand people so far, an immediate ceasefire should be declared in Syria for relief activities.
The United Nations Human Rights Office has said on Friday that an immediate ceasefire is necessary to help people in the area affected by the earthquake in Syria.
It should be noted that the United States has initially announced an emergency aid package of 85 million dollars for the affected areas of both countries.
This assistance is being provided to partners working in affected areas to provide immediate food, shelter and emergency health services to millions of people in need.
