New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India rejected the request to ban the British broadcaster.
According to the Indian media, the request to impose a complete ban on the British broadcasting organization was filed by the Hindu Antha organization. The petition claimed that BBC reporting and documentaries were ‘anti-India’.
The BBC has aired a documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role in the 2002 Gujarat Muslim riots ‘India; Da Modi Question’ aired which included interviews with Muslim families who lost loved ones during the attacks. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat those days.
A two-member bench of the Supreme Court rejected the plea of the president of a Hindu extremist organization, terming it completely misconceived and without merit. Reprimanding the petitioner, the court said, “What do you want us to impose complete censorship?”
