Peshawar: The suspension of local body representatives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by the Election Commission was challenged in the Peshawar High Court.
According to Express News, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and chairman of Tehsil Nowshera Ishaq Khattak has filed a writ in the Peshawar High Court in which the Election Commission of Pakistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Election Commissioner have been made parties.
PTI leader Ishaq Khattak has taken a stand that suspending local government representatives is an unconstitutional measure, the role of local government is very prominent in democracy, local government representatives were suspended on the basis of influencing the provincial general election.
Ishaq Khattak said that if this is the case, then abolish the federal government because the federal government will also use government resources in the by-election and the provincial general election, it was justified to influence the election which is not right.
Ishaq Khattak further said that the political system in any country is not complete without the local government system, the court should declare the Election Commission’s declaration null and void.
