Paris: French magazine Charlie Hebdo has once again published a controversial cartoon mocking earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.

According to the foreign news agency Al Jazeera, a drawing by artist Pierre-Join shows collapsed buildings amid piles of rubble and reads, “There is no need to send tanks.”

Social media users are outraged over the cartoon released by Charlie Hebdo. Consumers have slammed the French magazine.

Social media users said the cartoon mocked the tragedy that has affected millions of people in the two countries. They termed the drawing as “disgusting”, “shameful”, revolting and tantamount to hate speech.

A female user responded saying she was withdrawing her support for the magazine. One user said the cartoon showed the “true spirit” of Charlie Hebdo, while another said the paper’s “only source of income is Islamophobia.”

“Mocking the death of thousands of Muslims is the epitome of how France has dehumanized us in every way,” said Umar Sulaiman, an American Muslim scholar.

It should be noted that the death toll from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey and Syria has exceeded 16,000 so far. The number of dead people in Turkey has reached 12 thousand 873 and the number of dead in Syria has reached 3 thousand 162.
