A few facts about current technology that you may not know

In today’s topic we will discuss some very interesting facts about technology that many of you may not know.

1) In 1989, British scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web program and published the first website that Here can see.

2) Motorola introduced the world’s first mobile phone in 1983 called the DynaTAC 8000x. When this wireless phone was released, it was priced at $3,995 with 30 minutes of talk time.

3) Riken Research Lab and Fujitsu developed the Fugaku supercomputer. In June 2020, Fugaco overtook IBM’s Summit supercomputer as the world’s most powerful computer, but it has now been overtaken by the US-made Frontier in May 2022.

4) Douglas Engelbert of Stanford Research Institute (SRI) created the first computer mouse. Douglas Engelbert began work on the computer mouse in the early 1960s.

5) Government funded project started at Univ (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC)) made history as world’s first computer capable of electronic programming.

6) Everyone knows that Wikipedia is run by thousands of humans, but on the other hand, most people don’t know that hundreds of bots also contribute to running Wikipedia. ClueBot NG changes Wikipedia pages almost all the time. A variety of other bots also provide quality data in online encyclopedias. Due to this combination of humans and bots, Wikipedia works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week without any problems.

7) Have you ever wondered where the name Google came from? Actually this is a spelling mistake. At the beginning the word “googol” which represents a large number in mathematics, but by the time the company was formed, the makers of the Google search engine had changed the name to Google. Perhaps the name was easier to spell and read.

8) In 1981, Microsoft started developing a program called “Interface Manager”. Most people don’t know the name because Interface Manager became Microsoft Windows in 1983.

9) Ronald Wayne, co-founder of Apple Computer, designed the original Apple logo when he started the company. In the 1970s, the Apple logo depicted scientist Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree. If people were shown the pictures today, no one would probably recognize the original logo of the Apple company.

10) You may be surprised to know that email came long before the World Wide Web. Before the advent of the web, email worked differently than it does today. Users needed to dial a rotary phone to connect to the Micronet and access the e-mail web page. However, at that time only researchers and government officials used e-mail.

11) In 1999, Yahoo and Excite dominated the search engine rankings. Larry Page, one of Google’s founders, offered to sell Google to Excite CEO George Bell. Page wanted $750,000 and a 1% share of Excite in return, and Page demanded that George Bell give up his Excite search engine technology and use his Google. Bell turned down the offer, which turned out to be his biggest mistake. No one knows Excite now and Google rules.
