New Delhi: In the Indian state of Maharashtra, 10 people were killed and more than 100 were missing due to a landslide in the mountainous region after continuous rains.
According to the Indian news agency, a large mudslide fell on Arshalwadi village in Raigad district of Maharashtra state. Dozens of people were buried under the rubble of houses.
The village is remote, hilly and forested due to which the rescue operations faced severe difficulties. According to an estimate, 225 people lived in the village.
During the rescue operations, 10 bodies were recovered from the debris while 75 people were safely pulled out.
It should be remembered that two years ago, a village was destroyed by a landslide in this area and more than 80 people were killed.
The rains in India have caused great destruction in the state of Maharashtra. In Delhi, the floodwaters reached the Chief Minister’s House, the Parliament and the Taj Mahal. In Mumbai, schools were closed and the railway system disrupted.
