According to the historical details in this regard, ‘Belgium became part of the United Netherlands after the Napoleonic wars. Later, a revolutionary movement broke out in Belgium that forced the Dutch forces to leave the country between August and October 1830.
In search of a king, the revolutionaries of the time decided on Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, who belonged to the German aristocracy popular in Britain.
Leopold arrived in Brussels in early July 1831 and swore allegiance to the constitution on 21 July, becoming the country’s first monarch. Thus, 21 July 1831 is considered to be the beginning of the modern Belgian monarchy.
Today is a public holiday in the country and in addition to various celebrations during the day, fireworks are displayed at night.
The important thing of this year is that it has been 10 years since King Philippe, the current king of Belgium, became the king. He took oath of office on this day in 2013.
