Washington: Gavin Schmidt, NASA’s top climatologist at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies, has warned that July 2023 is set to be the hottest month of the century.
According to the world news agency, NASA meteorologist Gavin Schmidt says that the continuous heat wave is covering large parts of the planet, which will break many temperature records.
At NASA headquarters in Washington, climatologists, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson and Chief Scientist and Senior Climate Advisor Kate Calvin discussed unprecedented global climate change.
In this regard, meteorologist Gavin Schmidt said that we are seeing unprecedented changes all over the world. The heat wave in America, Europe and China broke all previous records.
The NASA meteorologist further said that all these indicators are raising concerns about the severity of the climate crisis. The rise in temperature is not surprising as it has been increasing steadily over the last 4 decades.
Gavin Schmidt said the Earth had its warmest June in recent memory, raising concerns about the possibility of 2023 becoming the hottest year overall.
Gavin Schmidt and other climate change experts have emphasized a direct link between these extreme changes and greenhouse gas emissions, and avoided attributing them to fossil fuels.
“What we know through science is that human activity and primarily greenhouse gas emissions are inevitably causing the warming we’re seeing on our planet,” Calvin said.
They predicted that temperatures would likely peak by the end of 2023, making 2024 even warmer.
