The basic electricity tariff has been increased by Rs 4.96 paise per unit.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a price hike announcement, according to which the basic electricity tariff will be Rs 29 78 paise per unit with the new hike. Earlier, the basic electricity tariff was 24 rupees 82 paise.
Nepra says that the basic tariff of electricity has been determined for the year 2023-24, before that the basic tariff of electricity was 24 rupees 82 paise. Reduction and capacity payments are the reasons for the increase in the base tariff.
Nepra further said that the revenue of electricity distribution companies is expected to be Rs 3281 billion.
According to sources, a unit of electricity in the country, including the basic tariff, currently averages around Rs 45, after the increase in the basic tariff, the average per unit of electricity may exceed Rs 50.
