Issuance of visas for Afghanistan, consideration of reduction in Pakistani diplomatic staff in India

In the meeting of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly, the issue of visas for Afghanistan and the reduction of Pakistani diplomatic staff in India were considered.

In the meeting held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Chairman Committee Mohsin Dawar, Pakistan-US anti-terrorism and defense talks were also discussed.

Acting Foreign Secretary Cyrus Qazi briefed the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and said that on August 5, 2019, India took unilateral actions in Occupied Kashmir.

He further said that after August 5, 2019, India was asked to reduce its diplomatic staff, always in such cases the affected country takes these steps.

Cyrus Qazi also said that there was no High Commissioner in India at that time, we did not send a new High Commissioner to India.

Acting Foreign Secretary said that India did not take appropriate action rather than shame and regret, later India requested further staff reduction.

He said that at present Pakistan High Commission in India has half the diplomatic staff.

On this, Mohsin Dawar said that written details should be provided instead of oral briefing, I want to ask why a detailed report was not given on corruption in the issuance of Afghan visas?

He said that the one-page report presented in the last meeting is shocking, in some cases, Afghanistan visa is issued in 1 hour.

Chairman Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs further said that in other cases Afghan visas are not issued for months, Acting Foreign Secretary should not try to trick us.

He said that the interior ministry could not submit a report in 17 days, we had asked for a report from both the foreign office and the interior ministry.

Mohsin Dawar also said that by paying 1500 dollars, the visa is issued in hours, the Ministry of Interior and Foreign Affairs should submit a detailed report on this.

NADRA officials told the committee that NADRA’s work is only up to online visa and data system, users apply online for visa and provide necessary documents.

Officials added that the online application and data agencies also monitor, the Ministry of Home Affairs will submit a detailed report on the matter.
