Islamabad: The FIA Cyber Crime Wing took notice after the incident of suicide of a citizen of Rawalpindi due to helplessness in connection with blackmailing and taking interest by ensnaring simple people into loans through online loan apps came to light.
Director General FIA Mohsin Hasan Butt asked the progress report from Cyber Crime Wing. Director General FIA Mohsin Hasan Butt issued orders to quickly arrest the elements involved in the incident.
He said that all resources should be used to arrest the accused, strict action should be taken against the elements harassing the citizens in the name of loans.
The Cybercrime Circle Rawalpindi has started an investigation into the calls received by the victim.
Inspector Badar Shahzad is conducting an inquiry on the request of the relatives, the records of the calls made by the accused are being obtained while the data of the ownership and location of the callers is also being obtained.
Yesterday, the team headed by Additional Director Cyber Crime Circle Rawalpindi Abdul Rauf visited the victim’s house.
Cybercrime circle Rawalpindi conducted two separate raids on G8 area of Islamabad in which several laptops and computers were seized, offices of respective loan apps located in G84 were sealed.
Information regarding illegal loan apps is also being taken from Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan. Further action will be taken against loan apps involved in illegal activities in the light of the information received from the Securities Exchange Commission of Pakistan.
PTA will be requested to block illegal loan apps while online advertising by illegal loan apps will also be blocked.
Effective strategies will be adopted in collaboration with stakeholders to prevent such incidents in the future. In case of harassment by loan apps, citizens can visit the nearest cybercrime circle and file a complaint.
