The Islamabad High Court has praised the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the hearing on the petition filed for the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
Supreme Court Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan heard the petition.
Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s co-petitioner Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui appeared in the court along with her lawyer Imran Shafiq.
Additional Attorney General Manoor Iqbal Dogal and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also appeared in the court.
In a dialogue with the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the court said that your efforts in the Dr. Aafia case are commendable, but until the court says that you have not done anything, much more needs to be done in the Dr. Aafia case.
Officials of the Ministry of External Affairs replied that there is some process for obtaining such documents from the Ministry of External Affairs, approval of the Cabinet is necessary for providing the documents.
The court said that instructions have been given to Mr. Dugal, the process will start, these are the words he always hears.
Foreign Ministry officials responded that the Foreign Secretary has made it clear that these documents should be shared with him, only that the process must be followed.
Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have assured the court that the work of providing the documents will start from tomorrow.
The Additional Attorney General told the court that if the American lawyer of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui gives an affidavit, it will not be used elsewhere.
The Islamabad High Court adjourned further hearing of the case till the last week of September.
