Uzbekistan’s President Shaukat Mirziyoyev was re-elected for a 7-year term.
According to foreign news agency reports, the Uzbek Election Commission announced the results of the elections held on Sunday.
The Election Commission announced the preliminary results and said that President Shaukat Mirziyoyev was elected once again for a 7-year term by getting 87.1 percent of the votes.
It should be noted that the Uzbek president has been in power since 2016.
He recently announced snap elections after changing the constitution through a referendum, extending the presidential term from 5 to 7 years.
The 65-year-old president opened the doors to foreign trade for Uzbekistan and eased restrictions, ensuring religious and political freedom in the country.
Note that there are no strong opposition groups or politicians against him in Uzbekistan.
