A technology that simultaneously sequesters carbon from the ocean and the air

An American start-up company is trying to combat climate change by using cutting-edge technology to simultaneously distill carbon dioxide from air and seawater to create hydrogen as an alternative fuel. Big tech and oil companies are investing in two strategies to combat climate change. The first strategy is to capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and ocean, while the second is to develop environmentally friendly alternative fuels. A California-based technology company is doing all three things at once.

The company has two pilot plants in Los Angeles and Singapore. These plants take water from the sea, then generate electricity from it. This process separates the water molecules, and the hydrogen molecules are extracted and sold as fuel by the company. By passing electricity, this water is split into two parts, one highly acidic (acidic) and the other highly alkaline (alkaline). Basic) is water. Calcium dissolved in basic water reacts with carbon dioxide to form calcium carbonate.

To distill the carbon dioxide from the air, the company passes the air through the same basic water, after which the gas is converted into magnesium carbonate. According to the company, carbon dioxide can be trapped in these minerals in the ocean for more than 10,000 years and prevented from entering the atmosphere.
