The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) says that the debt of the government of Pakistan at the end of May 2023 is 58 thousand 962 billion rupees, which has increased by one percent.
According to the central bank, the government’s debt has increased by 32 percent year-on-year. In May 2022, the debt of the government was 44 thousand 641 billion rupees.
At the end of May 2023, the local debt of the government increased by one percent to 37 thousand 54 billion rupees. Year-on-year domestic debt of the government increased by 28%, in May 2022 the domestic debt of the government was 29 thousand 47 billion rupees.
Similarly, at the end of May 2023, the external debt of the government decreased by one percent to 21 thousand 908 billion rupees. The government’s external debt has increased by 40 percent year-on-year. In May 2022, the external debt of the government was 15 thousand 594 billion rupees.
