Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Punjab government to take immediate action on the torrential rain.
Shahbaz Sharif directed the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab to immediately mobilize the relief teams.
He has said that the cooperation of the district administration, Rescue 1122, PDMA, municipal and related institutions should be ensured, all measures should be taken to protect the life and property of the citizens.
The Prime Minister has directed the NDMA and federal agencies to support the Punjab government and has also directed other parts of the country to take advance precautions for monsoon rains.
Shahbaz Sharif says that NDMA, PDMAs, provincial and district administrations should assist in advance arrangements, measures should be taken to move citizens to safe places in rural areas and save livestock from urban flooding. Urgent and necessary steps should be taken for rescue.
The Prime Minister has also directed the administration in the upper regions including Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, KP to be active and to keep the Prime Minister’s Office informed about all the measures.
It should be noted that the 30-year record of rain in Lahore has been broken, 291 mm of rain was recorded in 10 hours.
More than a dozen areas across the city have recorded over 200 mm of rain.
